2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
When we travel somewhere, we have that place in mind when choosing the mode of transportation, the route and of course everything else that is linked to that trip. If I am in Zambia and traveling to China, I will not choose to go by road. However, if I want to go to Zimbabwe on the way, I may choose to firstly drive to Zimbabwe and fly to China thereafter.
If we are looking to make heaven to be with Jesus; then Jesus becomes our focus. What will it take for us to get to Jesus Christ? If we are looking unto Jesus (v2), our destination remains the same and the way to get there remains clear. He is the author and finisher of our faith (v2); and our faith journey is towards nowhere else but to heaven to be with Jesus.
At the beginning of our faith journey or the race, Jesus may seem like He is very far away. However, knowing that the prize that we are racing for is our salvation, Jesus does not wait for us on that journey. He joins us in the race. He is that nearby runner. He does not sit to wait and see if we will take a car or take a plane and then wait to see if we will reach Him. He is busy working with God His Father and the Holy Spirit whom He left with us to help us. As we look to Him, He is looking right back and helping us to run. Even during this season of confusion, He is helping us run. He is a nearby runner encouraging us along the way. Look to Him as you run.
Homework: Look to Jesus right now and thank Him for running this race with you.
