Study Material: Isaiah 59:1-2
1 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
Today’s Teaching:
By now we all know that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God written by men divinely inspired by God. Every word in the Bible is from God. The Bible tells us that all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Rm 3:23). At the same time; it tells us God expects us to be perfect (read yesterday’s teaching). How can God see an imperfect people, sinners and ill-doers, and expect perfection from them? Is it not an unrealistic expectation?
To be honest, it really isn’t unrealistic. God wants us to hate what He hates and love what He loves. God is righteous; and so therefore He would not be found drinking excessively in a nightclub or partying. He would not be found having affairs and cheating people of their rights. But there are people who truly believe that when they do these things, it is okay because everybody is a sinner. When I lived a worldly life in the past, I thought that it was permissible. I did not know that it was a lie from Satan; but it is. I pray that you will be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Rm 12:2).
The will of God is for us to live righteous lives. How can unrighteous acts please God? How can we lie to ourselves and tell ourselves that living worldly lives pleases God? Pleasing God and Satan can never ever be the same. You cannot expect to do the things of this world, please Satan, and then tell yourself that it is good enough for our Father in Heaven. God forbid!! We are not righteous in our own abilities, but we can live righteous lives standing in our cloaks of righteousness that we wear when we give our lives over to Jesus Christ and submit to His will.
Take Home Lesson: Yes we are imperfect; but our God is perfect and righteous. He expects us give our lives to Him and try to be like Him.
Homework: Pray and say, Father, I want to be more like you. Make me more like you.
