Study Material: Proverbs 11:24-25
24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Today’s Teaching:
John D. Rockefeller was once the world’s richest man and has positioned his family into centuries of wealth and greatness. His only son and grandsons have also maintained wealth and one grandson even rose to Vice President of the USA under President Gerald Ford. John D. Rockefeller, is quoted as saying, “I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week" (W. A. Criswell, A Guidebook for Pastors, p. 154).
You do not have to be wealthy to tithe. Rockefeller started tithing when he was earning $6 a month. There is no amount of praying and fasting that will give you the money that you are looking for. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (Luke 6:38). This is a clear kingdom principle that is observed even in the economy. You do not attract interest on money that you keep under your mattress. You have to deposit your money in order to gain interest. What have you deposited in the Kingdom?
We want, want and want; but yet we find it hard to give. What do you give to the work of God? What have you deposited? If the worldly attitude has crept into your church where the work of God is no longer prioritized in terms of its expenditure, then pray and ask God where He wants you to partner with Him. But do not withhold your giving and lose your riches (v24). Give freely and it will be given back to you (v24-25). Do not allow your dislike or disagreement with the way some churches manage funds to say that you will no longer give in your local assembly.
Homework: Pray and ask God where He wants you to make your kingdom deposits and ask Him to give you the grace to give according to His leading and pattern.
