Study Material: Jonah 3:1-3
1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.”
3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days 'journey in breadth.
Today’s Teaching:
When we spoke of grace yesterday, we spoke of grace covering our sin. What that means is that grace enables us to have access to forgiveness. Grace provides us the platform upon which we can repent and seek mercy.
When God sent Jonah to Nineveh to warn them to repent, it was grace. God’s grace upon Nineveh caused him to send a messenger to them. When God told Jonah, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me” (Jon 1:2 ESV), it was the act of grace. He did not have to send them a warning. He could have just sat back and watched them continue in their grievous ways. But the grace of God afforded Nineveh deliverance. May the grace of God change your situation in Jesus’ name.
When Jonah finally delivered the message to Nineveh (v3), the people of Nineveh repented. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it (Jon 3:10 ESV). The people of Nineveh were saved because of the grace of God. May the grace of God lead you to the throne of His mercy. May God favor you.
Take Home Lesson: Grace is available to you. You can avert a disaster in your life today just by seeking God’s face and turning from whatever you do that displeases God.
Homework: Pray and say, ‘My heavenly Father, forgive me of my sins and please avert and destroy every disaster that could come my way. Father, deliver me in the name of Jesus.
