Study Material: I Chronicles 16:27 (NIV)
27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.
Psalm 91:1 says that he that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The shadow of God reflects the essence of God. Your shadow is an outline of your figure that covers a whole area. Romans 15:13 says asks for God to fill us with joy. One cannot give what he does not have. God can fill us with joy because He has joy.
The Bible declares that joy is in His dwelling place (v27). And those who dwell in God’s secret dwelling place have no choice but to have joy. Joy is the second element of the fruit of the Spirit. We are not only to have joy, but we are to share joy. Many people (myself included) struggle with joy. This is because we are so burdened with things that are joy stealers such as aggressive work environments, negative people and so many other things. But the key here is to keep your joy. We keep our joy when we dwell in the place where joy exists – God’s dwelling place.
Paul had joy. He told us to rejoice always (I Thess 5:16). Although he suffered imprisonment and other forms of persecution, he rejoiced and advises us to rejoice. Rejoice basically means to keep your joy. May we keep our joy in Jesus’ name. The key to keeping our joy is to dwell in the shadow of the almighty God; and in His secret place.
Homework: Pray and ask God to destroy every joy stealer that is at work in your life. Ask God to keep you in His dwelling place and in His shadow.
