Study Material: Matthew 7:12
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Today’s Teaching?
The Golden Rule says that we should do unto others, treat others, the same way we would want them to treat us. In like manner, we should treat ourselves the way we treat others. We are sometimes the most neglected persons in our lives. Many people spend so much time on relationships with others, but very rarely take the time to introspect and retrospect. Were we to do that, we would find that many people have not forgiven themselves for their sins and mis-steps. They take the time to forgive others but find it hard to forgive themselves. In that bitterness towards their own lives and stories, they lash out at others and try to make others unhappy.
Many bitter and hateful people are usually full of envy and jealousy that is rooted in their mistakes and unhappiness. They never forgive themselves or reach to a place of having peace with their past. Unless you make peace with your past, you will never embrace and enjoy your future. Although the Bible is silent on an instruction to forgive yourself, it tells you in I John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If Christ has forgiven you, why can’t you forgive yourself?
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1). When we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, He changes our lives. We become new creatures. Nobody can condemn you for past mistakes because Christ forgets them. They might gossip about you, envy your transformation, and wonder about why your life has changed, but they cannot condemn you. They have no power. If you walk in this grace (undeserved favor from God), then you need to forgive yourself. Let it go. You messed up, but Christ sees it no more. You shouldn’t either.
Homework: Pray and ask God to help you to let go of your past mistakes and failures. Ask God to help you let go of envy and jealousy that is rooted in your own loathe of your life and mistakes.
