Study Material: John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Today’s Teaching:
There are times when you believe deep in your heart that someone has done something wrong to you; and then you hear a so-called voice of reason saying to you, just let it go. Sometimes they will quote Jesus and say, if someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. if someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them (Luke 6:29).
Our view of peace is sometimes limited to wanting to ensure that we live lives that are not quarrelsome; lives that are void of strife. While this is good, there is a bigger picture of peace. Attacks from the enemy through slander, persecution, harassment etc does not mean that we do not have peace. When can suffer those things and still have peace. Jesus left us peace that even the attacks of the enemy cannot take away (v27). Our peace is not given by the world. It is not a result of other people’s actions or inactions, it is as a result of Jesus’ sacrifice.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 5:1). That is the reality of our peace. They can attack you on the job, they can undermine you and write all manner of memos against you. They can withhold your salary increase and even deny you of that promotion. You can be made to work more hours and even be maligned. The enemy can come from all angles with a myriad calamities, but the enemy cannot and should never steal your peace because it is sealed with the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Take Home Lesson: Situations can trouble or disturb you; but your peace is within. It is a confidence in the knowledge of who you are in Jesus Christ and the peace He has already given to you.
Homework: What has troubled you this week? Pray for your ability to rest within His peace and rise above your troubles. Pray for peace on every side.
