Study Material: I Kings 17:8-9
8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there:behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
A man of God once shared his testimony of why he no longer sits in plastic chairs without them being doubled. He said that he sat in a chair and the next thing he knew, he was on the floor. He vowed that he would never trust a plastic chair again. We lose trust in people and things based on our experiences; and likewise we gain trust from the same.
Elijah was told to go to Zarephath which is a part of Sidon. This was the same area where the witch of a Queen Jezebel was from. Her idolatry and evil ways emanated from that place. But God told Elijah to go there for refuge and care. You would not have gone there, but he went because he trusted God. The widow said that she had insufficient inputs to make a meal, but he told her to go ahead and cook anyway? Why? Because God had said.
You can trust the Word of the Lord because it is proven. You can confidence because you have evidence. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God (Ps 20:7). Was it not the same God who had just fed Elijah by birds twice a day, every day? Elijah had evidence; and so do you. Is He not the same one who has kept you? Is He not the same one who has delivered you before? He will do it again.
Homework: Pray and ask God to give you the grace to trust Him more.
