Study Material: Matthew 26:14-15
14 Then one of the twelve,……… Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.
Today’s Teaching:
During this period over several centuries ago, a man was being sold for 30 pieces of silver. On this day, He carried a cross. He had been betrayed and was now being ridiculed, battered and bruised. He was enduring a suffering at the hands of people who had conspired to kill Him.
The one who betrayed Jesus looked for his own trouble. Out of greed, Judas Iscariot went looking for the Pharisees to sell Jesus to them (v14). Judas pursued the enemy to join them. They did not pursue him. Have you ever wondered why Judas did this? After all, Jesus was openly teaching and performing miracles everywhere. He was not disguising Himself and nor was He coming out after midnight when everybody was asleep.
We look for things that disturb our peace and lead us to destruction. The peace of God comes from walking within the will of God; and the peace of God is better than silver and gold. Yes, Jesus had to die for our sins to fulfill the salvation plan; but His death did not have to be with the involvement of His disciple in exchange for money. There are some things that we get involved in that not only steal our peace; but can end our lives. Judas had no peace. So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself (Mtt 27:5).
Take Home Message: I pray for everyone reading this teaching today, that your enemies will self-destruct in Jesus’ name. I pray that the pits and holes that they dig for your downfall will be the same ones that will carry them down in Jesus’ name. As we reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made in going to the cross in peace, uttering not a word to no man, that the peace of Jesus will be your portion this season. Every area of your lives that are in turmoil, may the God of peace, Jehovah Shalom speak peace into them in Jesus’ name. I pray that you will not enter situations or make decisions that steal your peace. Happy Good Friday and God bless you.
