Study Material: Proverbs 19:23
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
There are two types of fear. There is one that is not beneficial, but there is one that is. The non-beneficial type of fear is the one that does not edify. It is the one that we mentioned yesterday which comes from that ‘spirit of fear’ that God did not give us. It comes from the enemy and has a primary purpose of distracting us from the purposes of God and benefits of our salvation.
The beneficial type of fear is the fear of the Lord. Yesterday we learned that it comes with the benefit of wisdom. Proverbs 18:23 tells us that the fear of the Lord has maximum benefits. It leads to a full life of satisfaction. That does not mean that you would not have challenges and battles to bear, but the harm of the enemy would not be your portion.
It is better to spend time building up the fear of the Lord than resting in the fear of the world. As we are asked in Hebrews 13:6b, ‘What can man do to me’? Seriously, why are we in fear of these things and people on earth; but yet do not build up our fear of the one who owns the earth? God can destroy everything that causes the spirit of fear to consume you.
Homework: Ask God to help you build up and increase your fear of Him.
