Study Material: I Corinthians 15:10 ESV
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
Today’s Teaching:
There is a story about a little boy who beat up his friend and got sent to the principal’s office. The boy was very stiff-necked and did not mind the fact that he was in trouble. When questioned, he recalled how he beat up little Johnny and gave him a black eye. The principal shook his head and asked the boy if he knew anything about grace. He grunted, "No". The principal shared that it was undeserved favor. The boy showed that he did not care, so the
principal reached for the belt. The boy stretched out his hands confidently as the principal approached.
The principal began to punish by giving the first whip into his own hand. The boy was astonished. The principal gave himself another whip. He continued with the same whipping of his own hand until it was swollen. The boy was screaming with tears filled his eyes. He asked the principal to stop whipping himself, but the principal did not. With swollen and beaten hands, the principal knelt before the little boy and said, “This my son is grace”. There
was to be punishment, but I took it for you.
God gave His Son Jesus Christ to die for us. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace (Eph 1:7 NIV). This is why Paul who used to persecute Christians could say, but by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain (v15a). Did Christ die in vain? God forbid. But
sometimes our attitudes suggest otherwise. I do not know if the act of the principal led that little boy to change for the better, but I pray that it did. I pray that the principal did not whip himself in vain because I know of a truth, Jesus Christ did not die in vain.
Take Home Lesson: Christ did not die in vain, but our actions can sometimes speak
contrary.
Homework: Receive the grace of God today but start by just rededicating your life to Him.
Appreciate the shed blood of Jesus Christ afresh and plead it upon you and your family.
