Study Material: Isaiah 38:18
18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth
Happy new year one and all. Happy new month. Happy new beginning of a new phase of your life. I pray that God will give you reasons every day of this year to be thankful. You already have a reason to be thankful because you are alive to see another year; and the dead cannot speak. The dead cannot complain about all the things they would like to have. The dead cannot praise God.
Psalm 115:17-18 says that the dead do not praise the Lord, Nor do any who go down into silence; But as for us, we will bless the Lord From this time forth and forever. Praise the Lord! It goes further. The wisest man of old says in Ecclesiastes 9:4 that for to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
You might have entered 2018 worried about some things. You might be apprehensive about what this new year will bring. You might not have made some decisions yet which are critical to your next steps. Might have ended the year 2017 disillusioned. Whatever your situation, be grateful. It is better to be a living dog than to be a dead lion; and you, a child of God, you are not a living dog. You are greater, bigger and better than a dog. Why won’t you praise God? Be grateful for every situation and celebrate the hope that you have by being alive.
Homework: Give God the glory for seeing a new year.
